What started as a fun night out on U Street turned bloody for Baker and his friends, who were shot by Gwynn Oak native David Botchway during an early morning August incident.
According to prosecutors, on the night of Saturday, Aug. 5, Baker and two friends were hanging out in front of a bus stop in the 1200 block of U Street NW after going out in the neighborhood, though an argument broke out at some point between he and one of the friends.
At around 5 a.m. that morning, the 20-year-old Botchway approached the group and "without warning or any provocation, pointed the gun at Baker and shot him multiple times in the head and torso," also grazing one of his friends with a stray bullet.
Baker died shortly after being shot.
Members of the Metropolitan Police Department patrolling the area heard the gunshots and spotted Botchway fleeing on foot, though he was apprehended after being chased to the corner of 12th Street and T Street NW.
Once apprehended, officers also recovered a Glock 22 handgun with an extended magazine.
Botchway pleaded guilty this week to second-degree murder while armed.
When he is sentenced in March, Botchway will face a prison term of between 16 and 20 years, according to officials.
